Beginner — Day 1 — Hello! Greetings & Introductions

Anna is a new teacher in Bangkok. Today is her first day. She sees a young woman near the school gate.

Anna: 'Hello! My name is Anna. I am a teacher here.'
Nok: 'Hi, Anna! I am Nok. I am a student. Nice to meet you.'
Anna: 'Nice to meet you too, Nok. Are you from Bangkok?'
Nok: 'Yes, I am. This is my school.'

Anna smiles. She is happy. She has a new friend on her first day.

In this story, Anna and Nok use the verb 'to be' (am/is/are) many times: I am a teacher, I am a student, this is my school. This little verb is one of the most important words in English — you will use it every day.
