Elementary — Day 1 — Past Simple Review & Irregular Verbs
At the coffee shop, Anna asks about the weekend.
Anna: 'What did you do last weekend, Somsak?'
Somsak: 'I went to my parents' house. I ate a lot of good food!'
Nok: 'I saw a movie with my sister. Then we drank tea and talked for hours.'
Anna: 'Sounds nice. I wrote three emails and read a whole book!'
Somsak: 'Wow, Anna. Did you have any free time?'
Anna: 'Yes! I also took a walk in the park and met my old friend there.'
Nok: 'Went, ate, saw, drank, wrote, read, took, met... none of these end in -ed!'
Anna: 'Exactly. These are irregular verbs — you just have to learn their past forms by heart.'
Remember from Beginner: regular verbs add -ed (worked, cooked). But many common verbs are irregular and change completely: go→went, eat→ate, see→saw, drink→drank, write→wrote, read→read, take→took, meet→met. There's no shortcut — practice makes them stick.
