Elementary — Day 5 — Superlatives
Nok has an idea about their trip.
Nok: 'I found the best hotel! It's the cheapest one, but it has the biggest rooms.'
Somsak: 'Really? What's the most popular restaurant near it?'
Nok: 'There's a small noodle shop. People say it's the most delicious food in the city!'
Anna: 'That sounds amazing. Is it also the busiest restaurant?'
Nok: 'Yes, it's always full — the busiest place I've ever seen!'
Somsak: 'You did great research, Nok. This might be our best trip yet.'
Anna: 'Notice the pattern — we use "the" before superlatives: the best, the cheapest, the most delicious. It's always comparing one thing to everything else in a group.'
Superlatives show the extreme — the number one in a group. Short adjectives: the + adjective + -est (the cheapest, the biggest). Long adjectives: the most + adjective (the most delicious, the most popular). Irregular: good→the best, bad→the worst.
