Grammar LV2 — Day 3 — Second Conditional
The second conditional talks about an imaginary or unlikely situation in the present or future, and its imaginary result. It's not about the past — 'If I had more time' doesn't mean I had time before, it means right now, imagining that I had more time (but I don't).
The form is: If + past simple, ... would + base verb. 'If I won the lottery, I would travel the world.' (I probably won't win, but imagining it.) 'If I were you, I would apologize.' (Notice: with 'be', we often use 'were' for all subjects in this hypothetical form, even 'I' and 'he/she' — 'If I were...' is the classic pattern, though 'was' is also heard informally.)
