Grammar LV2 — Day 4 — Passive Voice: Present & Past Simple
So far every sentence you've built has an active subject doing the action: 'The company makes cars.' The passive voice flips the focus onto the thing the action happens to, and often drops who did it entirely: 'Cars are made (by the company).' Use the passive when the action matters more than who did it, when the doer is unknown or obvious, or in formal/scientific writing.
The form is: be + past participle. Present simple passive: am/is/are + past participle ('English is spoken here'). Past simple passive: was/were + past participle ('This bridge was built in 1990'). Add 'by + person' only if it's actually useful information.
