Phonics — Day 3 — Short Vowels: e, o, u
Today you complete the short vowel set with three more sounds: /ɛ/ (e), /ɒ/ (o), and /ʌ/ (u).
/ɛ/ — like in: pet, ten, men
/ɒ/ — like in: pot, top, hot
/ʌ/ — like in: sun, cup, up
Good news: Thai already has the idea of short and long vowels — think of เอะ (short) versus เอ (long). So the CONCEPT of vowel length isn't new to you at all. You just need to learn which English sound goes with which spelling.
Now you know all five short vowels: a, e, i, o, u. With just a handful of consonants, you can already read dozens of words: cat, pet, sit, hot, sun, man, ten, pin, top, cup.
